JMW Ferrari 458 GT2 Race Car.

With racing being super competitive, every little advantage can mean positions, tenths; winning or finishing second. So with aerodynamics being so important we offered are services to see if we could extend JMW’s advantage were possible.

Key points they noted were:
Rubber and track dirt/grim sticking to the car
Visibility in cold or wet conditions
Total car weight in wet conditions.
Ease of washing down wheels and car after each race.

From this list and chatting with the driver Jonny Cocker, the plan of attack was:
Deep clean of exterior bodywork and arches
Removal of any bonded contaminates
Single stage machine polish
Machining of perspex windows to remove clouding and prep for coating.
Coat body panels with Exo to ensure super-hydrophobic finish.

After the non water deep clean was complete, half of the day was spent machining the body panels and perspex-

In wet or cold race conditions, the inside of the perspex would mist. Due to this they were roughly wiped down in pit stops, marring and clouding them badly. So the inside was also machined –

A part of the detail was to machine and smooth the rough to touch carbon work on the car –

As you can see with this 50/50 there is a significant difference ready for coating-

After the machine stages were completed, the whole car was panel wiped down ready for coating with Gtechniq

At the race track we were given pit lane access to monitor the coatings progress in the race and take notes and photo’s to progress from this coating.

As a result of our testing, noticeable differences were seen. Virtually no dirt sticking the the paint, 50% less rubber sticking the the sides. The major improvement was visibility giving the driver more confidence later on into the race. No need for an internal wipe down (so no marring/clouding) and a lot less flies sticking to the windscreen.

Taking the information gathered we will be able to make improvements for next season!
